Dear BBMP Commissioner,
The Halagevaderahally lake in Rajarajeshwarinagar is in a state of neglect.
Rejuvenation work was started in the second week of November 2022, but it has been abandoned since May, 2023.
The sewage treatment plant (STP) plant was a necessity, but desilting the nine-acre lake could have been prudently avoided.
As per BBMP records, the lake had been desilted in 2012 at a cost in the excess of five crore.
Except for sewage flowing from the eastern side, silt deposit was negligible.
It is obvious that a corrupt politician forced the hands of BBMP to steal public funds.
Now that the south-west monsoon has reluctantly begun to bless Bangalore and the return (north-east) monsoon set to follow in the latter part of the year, no work can be undertaken for six to eight months.
The ecology of the lake has been devastated.
Public money has been wasted.
Ground water table has been depleted, adding to the woes of peoples lives.
Will the BBMP be kind to let the public know:
1. What is the fund allocated for this rejuvenation project?
2. As of June 23, 2023, how much money has been spent on this project?
3. Whose brainchild is the project?
4. Did the Karnataka Tank Conservation Development Authority give approval?
5. Has a DPR been submitted?
6. Who is the project proponent?
7. What is the status of the lake?
We hope to hear from you soon.
