Unfortunately, for the wrong reason.
A deer had been shot and killed by a poacher, near Gundulpet. The carcass was recovered by deputy range forest officer Ramalingappa.
The incident happened on Monday evening.
Instead of filing a forest offence case, possibly to avoid investigation procedures, the DRFO allegedly hid the carcass of the deer.
Sensing a cover up, the local media brought the poaching incident to the notice of senior forest officers on Tuesday.
There is political pressure to condone Ramlingappa’s blatant negligence.
The DRFO should be suspended.
